Make Room at the Table
A Daughter’s Story of Compassion.
Her father was a hardworking man who proudly called Chicago’s South Side home all his life. In his later years, health problems and diminished finances made life more difficult.
His daughter, a single mother, had lived out of state for several years with her young daughter. When her father passed away in Chicago, she had little family to turn to for support. A local charity partner referred her to the Society.
There, she found a sympathetic ear. The Council Office worked with her family to secure a cemetery plot and financial assistance for a portion of the funeral costs. With that support, they were able to lay her father to rest.
Making room at the table can mean listening and standing with a family through a painful time. Tobit’s Work of Mercy, offering funeral assistance, is one of the many programs St. Vincent de Paul Chicago offers to serve neighbors in need. Your GivingTuesday gift supports this work and our other programs that help people when they need it most.
On Tuesday, December 1, gifts can be matched from a pool of up to $2,000!
Give today and help us be ready when another family reaches out.
